Tips for better portraits

  • Your face is the focal point of your portraits. Long sleeves and solids are more flattering for portraits. Sleeveless is only recommended if you have thin arms. Avoid stripes, large prints, or any bold patterns that will draw attention away from you.
  • As a general rule, darker, richer colors will let you stand out in your portrait.
  • We recommend light colors with light backgrounds and fair complexions.
  • We don't recommend wearing yellow or green because they can adversely affect skin color.
  • Don't forget your shoes and socks. They should match your outfit.
  • You should wear your hair in your regular style. If you need a haircut, have it done about a week before.
  • Props, such as musical instruments, sports gear, trophies, etc; help reflect your personality.
  • In a family portrait it is best that all members are color coordinated, so that nobody stands out because his/her clothes are too bright or too light compared to the rest.
  • Don't worry about skin problems. We can retouch blemishes and pimples.
  • Get a good night's rest, relax and be ready for a great portrait session!
