Who I Am
My passion for photography began in the mid-1990s when I was an owner of a well-known and high-performing GNC franchise in Boulder. Through the course of my work at GNC I became acquainted with the Strength and Conditioning coach at CU and became that department’s photographer from 1997-2003. It’s was great fun sharing the sidelines with the big boys from the AP and Sports Illustrated.
I had always wanted to scuba dive since seeing the James Bond movie Thunderball. I sold the GNC franchise in 1997 and spent the next few years traveling to all the continents except Antarctica, making several adventure trips that fostered my love of travel, wildlife, and underwater photography. At last count, I’ve taken 27 dive trips and logged 616 dives in places like Palau, Galapagos Islands, Indonesia, the Red Sea, and Papua New Guinea.
I continued to refine my photography skills and eventually in 1999 a friend asked me to shoot her wedding. I agreed and she LOVED her photos. Even better, I realized I really enjoyed photographing weddings. Then 9/11 hit and I knew that I wanted to get serious about capturing wonderful moments between people.
I began JC Lucas Photography in 2001 (as Jand G Lucas Photography) and am now in my ninth season photographing weddings. I’m a member of Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Professional Photographers of Colorado (PPC), the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), & Innovative Imagemakers (i2).
Our goal at JC Lucas Photography is to capture the emotion, the moment, and the day. I believe that it’s really important to preserve the memories of special days through gorgeous images.
I have shot more than 300 weddings and love the fact that no two weddings are the same! I can say that we’ve pretty much seen it all, from 300-guest weddings at The Ranch in Northglenn to a bride-and-groom-only elopement at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. We’ve shot indoors, outdoors, in sunshine, rain, & snow, and we know how to light and capture any type of wedding.
When I’m not capturing special moments with my camera, I can be found creating fun pieces for friends and family in my woodworking shop, donating my services to charitable organizations
